Duct Heater Retrofit
I have an existing QUA duct heater, will I be able to retrofit it with an SCR Control? This question was recently asked on our live chat. We’ve further detailed our answer below.
In most situations no. The only scenario that would allow for an existing QUA duct heater to be retrofitted would be if the heater were uninstalled and returned to Heatrex for the modifications to be completed at our facility.
Before the heater could be returned to Heatrex, two evaluations should be completed. First, an evaluation would need to be completed to determine the age of the unit, the unit’s serviceability, and if the unit was designed and manufactured to current Heatrex UL standards.
Assuming the first evaluation was favorable the second evaluation is one of economics. Total cost of the removal, shipping and repair should be calculated to determine if the modification costs outweigh the cost of a new unit. In our experience, the total cost of modifications often exceed more than half the cost of a new heater.
One final consideration, which sometimes may be overlooked, is time. In most cases, the time required for modifications including transit and uninstall, often exceed that of a new heater.
In most cases, the option of modification isn’t a feasible one. So what can you do? Reach out to your local independent representative or an inside sales engineer. Let us know what you’re looking to achieve and we will work alongside you to provide you with a heater that meets your performance needs.
Did you know that Heatrex was the first to develop the open-coil duct heater? Since then we have been closely tied to big and dramatic improvements. Let’s talk about the improvements you’re looking to make, find your local rep here.
